Give a Child the Chance to Learn
For just $1 a day, you can help a child stay in school, receive daily meals, and build a brighter future.
Even when school is technically “free” in Nepal, families face significant hidden costs. Uniforms, books, and exam fees quickly add up, and without consistent access to food, it is difficult for children to focus and succeed in the classroom.
For many families, the biggest barrier is the loss of a child’s contribution at home. Children are often relied upon to work, care for siblings, or complete daily tasks like fetching water. Sending a child to school can mean losing a critical source of income or support.
Through sponsorship, we help remove these financial and practical barriers so children can attend school consistently and stay engaged in their learning.
At Happy Kids Center, we recognize that education is often in direct competition with survival. That’s why we treat a child’s education as their full-time job.
Through our incentive-based model, children earn a small daily amount for attending school, completing homework, maintaining hygiene, and demonstrating positive behavior. This income helps offset what they might otherwise earn through child labor, while reinforcing the value of education.
By aligning education with a family’s economic reality, we make it possible for children to stay in school long-term.
Many of the children we support have spent years out of school, working in the streets and missing critical stages of learning. Through consistent support, they are able to re-enter the classroom, close learning gaps, and regain confidence.
Since launching this program, school attendance among Happy Kids has increased from 42% to 89%, and child labor has dropped to less than 10%.
Education opens the door to safer, more stable futures, breaking cycles of poverty that have affected families for generations.
When you become a sponsor, you will be paired with one child at Happy Kids Center and receive an introduction to learn more about them and their background.
Throughout the year, you will receive three updates sharing their progress, experiences, and milestones, allowing you to follow their journey over time.
At Happy Kids Center, we recognize that education must be a viable alternative to child labor. Through our model, children are supported not only in accessing school, but in staying there consistently and successfully.
Your support helps ensure they can remain in the classroom, continue their education, and build toward a more stable future.
Anita spent her early childhood on the streets of Bhaktapur, begging tourists for spare change and collecting plastic and paper recyclables to help support her family.
Raised by a single mother who made the difficult decision to leave her husband in order to protect her children, Anita’s life was shaped by hardship from a young age.
She was one of the first children we met, a young girl full of joy and potential, yet forced to spend her days working in the streets instead of learning in a classroom. Anita became the original inspiration for Happy Kids Center.
Nearly ten years later, Anita’s story looks very different. With the support of a long-term sponsor, she is now in her final year of school and preparing to graduate this April. Her sponsor has committed to supporting her through college, ensuring her education continues beyond secondary school.
Anita also participated in our child marriage prevention program, helping ensure she could continue her education and make choices about her own future.
Today, Anita is a reflection of what is possible when a child is given consistent support, opportunity, and belief. Her journey represents the long-term impact of education and the future we are working to build for every child at Happy Kids Center.
Our organization truly believes that by working together, we can save more lives than ever before.
